How daft do you have to be in order to drive this in the Netherlands? I mean with the crazy car purchase taxes and fuel at €1.45/litre? I saw 5(!) today, all with the 5.7L V8 (No EcoDiesel badges to be found)

There’s a few running around in the UK, that’s more silly than the Netherlands because of everything you said plus it’s LHD in a RHD market.

I was thinking it was likely a case of “What do I do when I am so rich that a Mercedes S65 AMG just won’t do”
“I know! Import a Dodge Ram into Europe!”

But my question is why not the Ford or the Chevrolet? There’s a darn good reason Americans are buying those over the Dodge...

You’ll find quite a few U.S. tanks over there. I recall a U.S. car dealership near Rotterdam and the local area was full of Econolines and the like. Absolutely awful in the Centrums as you’ll aware with the narrow roads and steeps turns. We used to come across a few in Veghel and if one was coming towards you, each had to judge how far they could move over without hitting a bollard and usually meant coming to a complete stop as you met and then slowly manouveured past each other.
Saying that, you’ll find much more in Germany.

Econolines I can somewhat understand, since a van tends to be more useful than a pick up, and it tows more than a Transit.
I did see a Chevy 2500HD Duramax in Santiago, Chile, but you kind of expect that from the wealthy in Latin America.

Things like that are common in Iceland too for no reason that’s immediately obvious.

Military personnel sometimes bring their cars. I’ve seen 1-ton Chevy duallies with American registration on the Autobahn. These cars can then find their way into the local population.
But there are crazies of all kinds in every country who buy these just for the giggles, I’m sure.

Well, when it comes to the truly american stuff, europeans seem to favor Chrysler products over GM and Fjord.

Because they bought what they wanted.

I am from Chile and now it is more common an f150 platinum or raptor than a base model, same thing for the ram and Silverado with their huge chrome grilles.

But petrol isn’t as cheap as in the US, but it is less expensive than the EU, right?

It could make sense if it was used to tow farm equipment or something like that, but these were just traversing Dutch motorways.
Mysteries...

If you want a pickup that will disintegrate on you after a decade, fine. But it seems there are more enjoyable ways to waste money than a Dodge Ram driving around the Netherlands.

I’m sure that’s at least part of the reason there are Jeep Grand Cherokees with German registration and the US sized German plates.
But Friesland isn’t exactly near Heidelberg.

Which is the reverse of how things usually go in the US. Normally it’s Ford, then GM, then Chrysler.
Although I would drive a GMC Sierra diesel 4x4 crew cab in Europe, as it would be very insane.
Maybe if I lived in Luxembourg.

Indeed. We don’t do American pickups here but you sometimes see normal sized ones like the Hilux. Nearly always they’re carrying nothing except air.

It is like €1 per litre so it is cheaper than the EU.
